Decorative Cucumber is one of the most well liked of current trending meals in the world. It is enjoyed by millions every day. It is easy, it’s quick, it tastes delicious. They are fine and they look wonderful. Decorative Cucumber is something that I have loved my entire life.
Cucumber flower we can use to garnish vegetable platter, appetizers or just add touch to any plate where is cucumber appropriate for decoration. For the flower, the best is long cucumbers because this way we don't need to make many extensions. My mother made 'Bento' lunch for my sisters and me for many many years.
To get started with this recipe, we must first prepare a few components. You can have decorative cucumber using 1 ingredients and 7 steps. Here is how you can achieve it.
The ingredients needed to make Decorative Cucumber:
- Take Cucumber *firm & thinner one with no seeds and no watery parts is ideal
Stack them partially on top of each other to create a line. Carefully roll the slices all the way up, cut in half, and then place them on your dish with the flat side down. You may have to adjust the "petals" a bit to make it pretty. Cut off both ends of a washed cucumber.
Steps to make Decorative Cucumber:
- Crown - Cut 5-6cm in length. Using a pointy fruit knife, carefully make zigzag cuts in the middle part toward the centre all around, and divide into 2 pieces. You can add a little bit of Mayonnaise on top.
- Leaf - Cut 3-4cm in length and cut in half lengthways. Make ‘V’ cuts, and slide the V-shaped pieces and form into a leaf. You can keep the edges or trim them off.
- Cup - Make 4 or 5 diagonal cuts toward the centre, make same cuts 7-8mm above. Use the pointy end of the knife and cut the centre. You may wish to trim the bottom a little bit, so that the cup sits well. Cups are good to serve Wasabi for Sashimi Platter.
- Rings - Slice two 3-4mm thick discs, cut out the centre, and make them into rings. Cut one of them and connect the rings. You can connect multiple rings.
- Ball - Slice two 3-4mm thick discs, make cuts as shown in the picture, and connect the discs.
- Bamboo - Cut about 6cm in length. Cut the middle part in half about 2-3cm, cut one side diagonally, turn over and cut the other side diagonally, and divide into 2 pieces.
- Fan - Cut about 7-8cm in length, cut in quarters lengthways, and trim the edge. Cut 3/4 of each piece into 7 very thin slices and shape into a fan.
With a potato peeler, peel one strip all the way down the cucumber Move over about the width of the strip you just peeled and leave the skin in tact. Then peel again, then leave the skin again, causing a striping effect all the way down the cucumber. English cucumbers, also called hothouse cucumbers, are best for this garnish. If you use standard cucumbers, look for a straight cucumber of a thin and uniform diameter. To make decorative cucumber slices, run the ends of a fork down the length of a cucumber, removing just the skin.
